Piano

Piano lessons are available for beginner through early advanced, age 5 and older. Lessons focus on the basics of playing piano by integrating all aspects of musicianship, including the use of proper technique, analytical listening and fluent reading in a supportive environment.  Although the focus is on Western Classical music, students are exposed to a variety of music styles including popular music, jazz and world music.  Lessons occur once a week, every week.

Required Materials: Students must have access to a fully functional and well-tuned piano or full-sized weighted digital piano for daily practice. Students should bring their music method books, a lined notebook and repertoire to each lesson. Additional materials (piano book bag, metronomes, music, flash cards) may also be recommended.

Practice Expectations: A student’s progress is determined by dedicated practice, not by simply attending lessons. Ideally, students should practice at least 5 days a week. I don’t usually specify how much a student should practice each day, but I do expect student to practice long enough to complete their weekly assignments and to make progress.

Playing and written examinations are highly recommended but not compulsory. I offer preparation for and participation in the following examination systems:

All students are required to take part in my studio recitals twice a year, usually in May and December.
